Girton Golf Club

Since its inception in 1936, Girton Golf Club has been a member-run Golf Club. Situated on the outskirts of Cambridge we are in easy reach of the City. The original 9-hole course was created on farming land and the protected Ridge and Furrow layout is still visible on the First and Eighteenth fairways betraying the land’s Middle-Ages Heritage. The freehold for the land was purchased in 1965 and the course was extended to 18 holes in the late 1970s. It is now a well-established par-69 6044yd course that plays harder than its length. From the red tees the course presents an interesting and demanding 5418 yards at a par 71. The keen golfer will find that whilst the course is comparatively flat it is quite tight and represents a testing challenge of accuracy and control.

The club has always been known as a friendly place, where people can play challenging golf, meet new friends and join in with the wide range of social activities. We pride ourselves in making access to golf easier with an extensive practice facility, a swing-studio with the latest radar tracking tech, and our professional, Paul Trujillo, who offers individual and group lessons for people playing at any standard.

We have four active sections (Men, Ladies, Seniors and Juniors) each offering the chance for friendly or competition golf. Each section offers `Open golf’ where you can sign up to play and get to meet people like yourself. If you don’t have regular partners to play with then “Open Golf” ensures that you can get a game. We have ambitions to grow our Junior Section and have recently been awarded SafeGolf Accreditation.

We also offer a full bar and catering facility which can cater for social events up to 100 people and offers excellent facilities for golf societies. Club members receive a discount on their bar card making the price of a pint very competitive.

Full members also get to benefit from reciprocal golf arrangements through the SmartGolfer Network and through Network Golf. Together this enables members to access more than 60 UK courses where they can book in advance and play for free. If you are a travelling golfer this represents fantastic value.

Recently we have retained a golf architect to make recommendations on course remodelling and other improvements. Much of this work is now complete and the course is now a visual delight with a profusion of trees and flowering shrubs bordering its fairways and boundaries. There is also an abundance of wildlife including our famous black squirrels. We are currently developing plans for more course improvements extending the course and increasing the level of challenge.

Come and play. If you are interested and want to find out more, please don’t hesitate to contact our Club Secretary Nicola Harding Email: office@girtongolf.co.uk.
